Our Town barbers keep tradition alive

Local News

MT. ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — Our Town’s barber shop has been buzzing with customers for a long time.

The Village Barber Shop has always offered a traditional shave or trim, but a few extra perks have been added along  the way. It was Don’s Barber Shop for 121 years. The name changed a while ago.

Now, Barry Altevogt is running the show. It has a military theme since both owners served. There’s a little John Wayne memorabilia mixed in too.

These two barbers take care of all your healthcare needs, saving the best for last. Every customer gets a massage at the end of his appointment. It’s something Altevogt says other barbers don’t offer.

There’s also a box outside the shop for people to put old flags in. It’s a program the Boy Scouts run. Altevogt also helps with fundraisers for Mt. Zion schools.
