CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Big changes for another nursing home in the area. The Champaign Living Center on Springfield Avenue is set to close on or before June 12th.
That building was bought by the same company that bought the Champaign County Nursing home. That’s Paradox Champaign Operator LLC. Everyone living there will have to find somewhere else to stay.
That nursing home is licensed for 102 beds by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Champaign County Heath Care Consumers helps people with transitions like one nursing home to another.
Employees at CCHCC advise families to look into what location will fit their loved one best when it comes to insurance and the care they need. They say they haven’t been contacted by anyone from Champaign Living Center yet.
These new owners of the building already own two out of the 10 nursing homes in the Champaign County area. Some have concerns about one company having too much control.
“If a lot of the facilities are owned by one operator, there will be similar practices regarding staffing levels, things like that, and so in reality, patients will have less options about… they will have less choice,” said Champaign County Health Care Consumers Executive Director Claudia Lennhoff.
There is a possibility that it could close before June 12th. Basically, if all of the people living there move out before that day, it will shut down then.
As for the future of that location – the new owners say they have plans in the works.
They can’t go into detail about what those plans are, but they did tell me the location will no longer operate as a nursing home.
