CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A nursing home has been fined twice by the Department of Public Health after two people died under its care.

Helia Healthcare of Champaign has been fined $75,000 for the deaths of two people.

IDPH reports one person choked on food because no one was watching the resident while eating. That resident died at the hospital.

Another resident died after falling from a lift two different times. The resident was hospitalized for a severe brain bleed, but died after being transferred to another nursing home.

Helia had no comment.

Other facilities in Central Illinois had major violations.

  • Christian Nursing Home, in Lincoln, was fined $50,000  a death there.
  • $25,000 fines were levied against Aperion Care Capitol, in Springfield, for not providing enough training to nurses.
  • Heartland of Decatur was cited for failing to give medications to some residents.
