New VR project aims to address police and minority relations

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- What if you could put yourself in someone else's shoes, virtually. Some students are creating a new VR films series addressing relations between the police and minorities.

The 3-part series will be told through the eyes of a mother, her son and an officer. The founder says their biggest goal is to give some perspective and build empathy.

"It took me a while to realize how we form stereotypes, and one reason is because many people learn from the media, and there's a huge representation of bad images and minorities."

They're trying to raise at least $5,000 to kickstart the project.
