CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign-Urbana area is already bike friendly, and that’s now being showcased by the state.

Governor Rauner signed a bill last week making cycling the official Illinois exercise.

City officials say with all of the new additions in town for bike riders, like the new trail, it’s a great time to pick up biking.

“It’s something that all of our communities have been working on, because we’ve come to realize the built environment has a huge impact on people’s health, if they can’t do routine physical activity as part of their everyday lives, then they don’t get exercise. Bicycling is one of those ways where you can get somewhere quickly and easily if you have infrastructure that you feel safe using.”

Officials say they’re looking at more ways to make it easier to bike around C-U, like a bike sharing program.
