URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Two men wanted to bring a concept they’ve seen in other cities to the area. They’re opening the Broadway Food Hall. The concept is fresh and affordable lunches.
The place will offer five different food options near downtown on Broadway Avenue. Friday, they’re giving the public a sneak peek.
It’s not your average food court. There are endless choices for anyone to enjoy. When it’s lunchtime, it’s often hard to choose what to have.
“A lot of people have been working in offices and have the problem of where should we go for lunch and spend more time trying to figure it out than actually going.”
The Broadway Food Hall might just satisfy everyone’s cravings.
“I’m going to be introducing poke. It’s a Hawaiian-style sushi and we’re packing that into rice bowls.”
“Next to that is Muchacho, a Korean-Mexican-chipotle concept that will be packed with flavors.”
“We have salads, pastrami sandwiches, and at the diner, just California-style burgers.”
Matt Cho and Shai Mauth are the two behind the idea. They’re transforming a warehouse space into the new food hub.
“Really, with a space this size, you can camp out or study or have meetings here.”
Despite endless food options, affordability is also at the top of the list. Mauth says the average meal will cost $8.
“You go out to lunch every day and it gets a little costly on the wallet and therefore, we want to make sure you can eat here regularly.”
It’s been a year in the making. Both say they’re excited to share their vision with others.
“Check out the space, what we’ve been working on the last year and there will be some samples for people to try out.”
Friday there’s an open house from 5 – 8 pm. Come out to see the space. When the food hub finally opens, five food vendors and a bar will be open from 8 am – 3 pm:
- King KumaI
- La Royale
