Native monster truck is pride of Our Town

Local News

PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) — An Our Town native doesn’t have a typical day job.

Tom Meents has been a monster truck driver for the past 25-years and doesn’t plan on quitting any time soon. He can be found learning new tricks inside “Max Destruction” on his full course at home.

He’s taken it to competitions all around the world. Max-D is one of the meanest monster trucks in the world. The tires alone are more than 5-feet tall.

Meents is an 11-time world champion. He does back flips, front flips and some tricks you’d have to see to believe. He says he’s never worked a day in his life and he loves getting to share his hometown pride with the world.

Meents drives for Monster Jam. His home course attracts drivers and future drivers from around the world.

His line of work has become a family affair. Both of Meents’ sons drive as well. Next on his list is a month visit to Australia. The trucks are shipped in shipping containers by boat for events around the world.
