Murder suspect pleads not guilty

Local News

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The man who turned himself into police Tuesday was in court Wednesday.

Isaiah Cain was wanted for first degree murder in connection to the shooting death of Scott Roth. Roth was shot on Edgebrook Drive earlier this month. Police say it happened after an argument.

Cain is pleading not guilty and says he’ll be hiring his own attorney. The state’s attorney says Cain is the only suspect in the case.

Authorities couldn’t say if Cain was specifically targeting Roth nor could they say if they knew each other.

Police were able to find the link quickly because Cain had a cast which made him easy for witnesses to remember. Cain is being held on $2 million bond.

Roth’s parents declined to talk on camera but say Scott was a loving and caring son who would do anything for anybody. They said he was trying to break up a fight when he was shot.
