CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle accident. It happened about 7:30 am, Wednesday, on I-74 eastbound, just east of St. Joseph.
Authorities say an unknown vehicle was passing in the left lane while entering a construction zone. That vehicle cut off a Chevy Cobalt merging into the right lane and forced the driver to slam on the brakes.
The driver of a Ford Expedition rear-ended the motorcycle, pushing it into the Cobalt. The motorcycle eventually came to rest on its side on the shoulder.
The driver of the unknown vehicle was never identified. No other injuries were reported. The motorcyclist taken to the hospital is a 63-year old man from Urbana. Police say it was for non-life threatening injuries, but we’re told by the motorcyclist’s wife that some of the injuries were life-threatening. He is doing better now.
