CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Employees are starting to move into Carle at the Fields, out by I-57 and Curtis Road. It’s just one of several future developments on the city’s west side.
The facility will house 1,200 employees and consolidate ten leased offices. City officials have been looking at the area since the 70’s.
“We have different groups, from IT to accounting to human resources to health information.”
They’ll all be under the same roof.
“We’re really trying to do what’s financially best for our community as well as our patients and our future.”
Senior Interior Director Anne Meek says her vision for the building has turned into reality.
“Inspiring creativity and working together for it to be a great, bright place for people to work.”
From new office spaces to a place to grab a bite to eat, this building is almost ready to open the doors.
“The beautiful windows, the natural light, the sunshine.”
Rae Ann Ronk is the human resources director. She says it will be nice to be all in one place.
“We will be right on site with some departments that, before we had to travel to go meet.”
Across from Carle at the Fields is a future hotel; just one of many plans for development on this side of town. They’re plans the city has been talking about for years.
“There’s quite a bit of land that’s not been permitted yet and we don’t know what could possibly happen yet.”
Lacey Rains-Lowe works for the city’s Planning and Development. She says the sky’s the limit for what might be next.
“I think, the fact you have the great access to I-57 with that new Curtis Road interchange, it’s so easy to get where people need to go.”
Some departments have already started the move. Health Alliance is the biggest group making up 800 of the 1,200 employees. Everyone is expected to be moved in by May.
Patients won’t come to the facility until next year. In 2019, Carle will be joined by Christie Clinic to build a jointly-owned outpatient surgery center.
