Motorcyclist killed when rear-ended by semi

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A motorcycle driver is dead after being hit by a semi.

It happened about 2 am, Tuesday, on I-57, about 5 miles south of Neoga.

Authorities say the semi, driven by 41-year old James McMorris, of Zachary, La., was behind the motorcycle when it struck the rear of the bike. Both vehicles skidded off the roadway.

56-year old George Varvitsiotes, of Newman, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation. Charges are pending.
