MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — We now know the name of the 29-year-old man police say was shot and killed Friday morning.

Police said Mark Currie died at the hospital after being shot at Sunrise Apartments on 9th street. Keith McGrew, 26, of Chicago is charged with first degree murder. They found him walking on Lake Road, a few miles southwest of Mattoon.

They said McGrew told them he was staying with a woman at Sunrise Apartments, and got to know Currie during the past few days. They got into an argument Friday morning. Police say McGrew left, got a gun, came back, and shot Currie. Police said McGrew tried to explain what happened.

“The suspect alleges, bear in mind we only have one side of the story, the suspect alleges the victim made unwanted sexual advances against him which enraged him,” said Jason Taylor, Mattoon Police Chief.

McGrew’s girlfriend hid the gun at another apartment building, but police later found it.
