SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Authorities say they’ve searched “all searchable areas” but still have not found a missing man.

59-year old Michael Schmidt was last seen about 6 pm, Sunday, in the area of 7600 Vigal Road, Pawnee. He and a friend were looking for arrowheads.

Schmidt can see and hear but can not talk because of a breathing tube. Authorities say 40-volunteers were involved in the search Monday. A K-9 handler and cadaver dog searched the area Tuesday.

Officials say flooding has made the search more difficult, but as water recedes, they’re gaining access to areas they were not previously able to search.

The plan for Wednesday is to send divers into a nearby pond to make sure officials have searched every possible location.

Authorities are asking residents to keep an eye out for Schmidt and call authorities if you see anything suspicious.
