CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Officers with the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team will join school resource officers for training exercises at Franklin Middle School, during the day, Thursday, July 12.

Residents are warned there will be an increased police presence and potentially loud sounds associated with the training. Much of the notice was done in door-to-door canvassing of the immediate neighborhood.

The public is asked to stay away from the area. The training is part of 200 hours SWAT and other specialized units in the department undergo on an annual basis.
