Mayor supports police chief against “no confidence” vote

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — Mayor Jeff Bloemker is responding to a “no confidence” vote against Police Chief Jeff Fuesting.

25 of 26 police department patrol officers and telecommunicators passed the vote. Staff and union members talked to the chief about violating contractual provisions, unfair employee treatment and hostile workplace incidents. They say the vote signifies a breaking point.

Monday, Mayor Bloemker issued the following statement:

Chief Fuesting has been a tireless fighter for best practices in law enforcement and law enforcement practices. I’m confident this is all part of a manipulation campaign to support political payback and retribution that has resulted from the recent municipal election.
