MOULTRIE COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Officials across Central Illinois were on high alert as they looked for Chad Matheson, and now he’s finally in custody.
Police say he stole multiple vehicles and they warned people he was armed and dangerous.
Matheson was arrested at a bar in Danvers earlier today, after the search ramped up in several counties over the past 24 hours.
He tried to get away when police found him, and that’s when he drove into a Danvers PD squad car — the McLean’s County Sheriff’s Department says all four officers involved are okay.
A few weeks ago Matheson took a plea deal and was sentenced to three years in prison for forgery — but when he was supposed to report to the Moultrie County Sheriff’s office on the 25th — he never showed up.
They say he stole several trucks, and had been hauling a stolen trailer from Bloomington — that trailer was found just south of Leroy.
The Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office says they appreciate the help from people and other police departments.
“It is reassuring, comforting to know that he is in custody, so the public can be a little more at ease.”
They told us that even today, they were getting calls from people who thought they saw him in Sullivan.
Authorities say it’s likely he’ll face several charges — and was brought to the McLean County Jail.
