MATTOON, Ill (WCIA)–A Navy Veteran is asking for your help to locate a precious item.

He misplaced a Navy Veteran hat that he wore almost every day.

It was special to him because of pins on it given to him by his grandson.

The last time he remembers seeing it was in April.

Sam Guyette retired from the navy in 1980.

He says he’s had this hat for about five years.

But the hat isn’t what’s important, his grandson gave him some of his Boy Scout pins and they’re on it.

Guyette wants those memories back.

“It also has the pins my grandson gave me which although we can probably get those replaced it won’t be the same as when he was that age and got them especially for me,” Sam Guyette says.

Guyette says he had it the Friday before Easter at Feilds Church in Mattoon on Dewitt.

He says if someone has his hat they can keep it, as long as they return the pins.

If you know where it is or have it, you can call him and he will meet you.

That phone number is 217-258-6901
