MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — A local man faces charges of aggravated assault after a two-hour standoff.

37-year old Andrew Hussong was arrested about 8:30 pm, Monday, in the 1000-block of South 17th Street.

Police responded to the scene when a woman called for help with Hussong who was reportedly acting irrationally. Authorities say Hussong threatened the woman and, when police arrived, locked himself in a bedroom.

Officials say Hussong was agitated and told police he had a firearm before making specific threats to officers. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.

Attempts to peacefully resolve the standoff were unsuccessful. Members of the Coles County Response Team forced their way into the room where Hussong was holed up and took him into custody.

Authorities say he was found to have an airsoft pistol and claw hammer but no actual firearm. He was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
