Man remembered for serving his community

ARMSTRONG, Ill. (WCIA) — People from all over Central Illinois are mourning the loss of a beloved former restaurateur.

Lorin Schluter died Saturday, after a car accident near Penfield. Schluter was known for his signature overalls and famous fried chicken he served at Bibb’s Country Restaurant.

More importantly, he was known as a friend to the community. Schluter owned Bibb’s in Gifford and later moved the restaurant to Urbana.

During the aftermath of 2013’s tornado devastation in Gifford, Schluter opened the restaurant to residents and first responders, serving them free of charge.

His brother says the loss is being felt by everyone he touched. Schluter was a regular guest on WCIA where he was always excited to share his chicken and meatloaf with our crew.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but a visitation is planned for Wednesday evening at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Flatville.
