ATWOOD, Ill. (WCIA) – A man is in jail after a car chase that spanned three counties.
It started in Atwood, when 26-year-old Eric Borbash of Villa Grove hit a car. When deputies tried to stop him, he took off.
That led to a chase that went north into Champaign County, and west into Piatt County. At one point, deputies told us speeds reached up to 100 mph.
Police put spike strips down, which penetrated Borbash’s tires and reduced his speed to about 30 mph.
The chase ended near Hammond, where Borbash was arrested for aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of a crash.
Borbash is being held in the Douglas County Jail.
About an hour after the chase came through Sadorus, a train hit a car.
That happened around 11:30 Saturday night, between Tolono and Sadorus.
Police say a 27-year-old woman from Rantoul was driving, with her one-year-old son also in the car.
Both went to the hospital, but neither were seriously hurt.
She told police she accidentally left the roadway, then her car got stuck on the tracks.
