MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — An area man faces charges for possession of burglary tools.

34-year old Albert Mitchell was arrested about 2:50 pm, Saturday.

Authorities say, during the early morning hours of Thursday, police patrolling the area of 26th and Western encountered Mitchell who was wearing a black balaclava over his face.

When he was stopped and questioned, officers say they found him carrying a crowbar, work gloves, rubber gloves and a flashlight.

Authorities say the area has been hit with numerous residential burglaries recently. Mitchell is known to have prior incidents of burglary.

Officials say Mitchell’s explanation for having those items with him at the specific time of night didn’t corroborate with other facts, so he was taken into custody.
