SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — One man has been arrested for the murder of a pregnant woman. 23-year old Derrick Hayes was taken into custody about 10:30 am, Friday, in the 2800-block of South Grand Avenue East.
He’s charged with first degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Police say he’s responsible for the shooting death of Sheena Malone, which happened Tuesday, May 30, in the 1900-block of South 1st Street.
Malone was reportedly not the intended target of the shooting. Officials say the incident is not gang-related as Hayes has no known affiliations.
