Mammogram equipment changes

Local News

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Carle Health System has new technology to make an annual visit more comfortable.

Carle has equipped all of its locations with new mammography equipment. It has several curved compression paddles.  They are designed to be more comfortable during cancer screenings.
The old paddles were always the cause for complaints.

Janet Althauser a Radiological Technologist with Carle says, Patients that have high anxiety or have a fear about the pain when having the mammogram kind of put their mammogram off. That’s not a really good idea because cancer can occur even if you skip a year, you might find that the following year when you come in it’s worse than it would have been if you came in first on your yearly mammogram

She says also says they have several of these paddles at their locations in Urbana, Hoopeston, Mattoon and Danville.
