ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Do you think mobile app companies should have to ask permission before tracking your location?

Lawmakers passed legislation making sure they do. However, business groups and Governor Bruce Rauner disagree and say it should be considered on the federal level.

They argue it’s too difficult to put state regulations on app companies because most cannot track if someone downloads an app out-of-state.

The bill would have also required the companies to outline how their data would be used and sold.

Supporters say Rauner’s veto chose big business over protecting people.
