CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s halfway through the summer, but when kids go back to school in the fall, you’ll be seeing a lot of changes.
Here is a breakdown of the updates for each school in Champaign:
Central High School
Demolition will start as soon as the Burnham Mansion is moved. That has to be done by August 10. Construction will follow once demolition is done.
Centennial High School
Site prep work happens this summer. There will be a groundbreaking on construction early in 2019.
Tommy Stewart Field
Construction is well underway. The entire project should be finished by late August.
Spalding Park
Most of the facilities at the park have been demolished to make way for the new ones. A lot of construction is happening now. This project is slated to be done by January.
Dr. Howard Elementary
All staff has been moved out of the building. The entire building will be demolished starting in September. March 2019 is when construction on the new school starts.
Edison Middle School
It is currently in the planning phase of development.
South Side Elementary
It is currently in the design phase of development until the end of 2018.
International Prep Academy
Construction will start in 2021. Planning will start in 2020.
