MONTICELLO — Wade Jones may be one of the most well-known kids in Piatt County and he’s only four years old. Wade was just four months old when he diagnosed with Cri Du Chat, or 5P Minus Syndrome, but that hasn’t stopped him from inspiring people.
Last year, Wade’s family put together a 5K race in his name. They wanted to raise money so they could go to a conference and meet families who also have kids with the disorder. Wade’s mom, Megan, says it’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride since they found out he had 5P Minus, but people have pulled together to support them.
“It’s very humbling,” said Megan. “It’s just nice living in a community like this when it’s a small town and everybody kind of knows everybody and if you have a situation like ours, it’s nice to know our community backs us and supports us.”
5P Minus is a spectrum disorder, so some kids do better than others. It affects one in 50,000 births. The family plans to host the race again this year. To find out more, click here.
