COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Some residents are against a property reassessment project. Now, they have a judge’s okay to file suit against it.
The Concerned Taxpayers of Coles County have been trying for months to halt the reassessment. They say the way the new property values are determined is unconstitutional.
The state’s attorney and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office both declined to take legal action. That’s when Circuit Judge Jonathan Braden finally granted the approval.
The issues started in 2015 when the county made the decision to reassess all commercial and industrial property for the first time in more than a decade.
