ISP trooper cadets to start training

Local News

ILLINOIS (WCIA) — The people who will keep our roads safe one day will soon start learning how to do that.

The first class for state police cadets is Sunday. The total number of troopers has dropped over the last ten years. It means fewer are patroling the roads. Officials say you can blame budget cuts.

“It’s expensive to hire, not only the trooper but to train the trooper, but then also to equip the trooper with the proper equipment to do their job,” said Trooper Tracy Lillard.

There will be another opportunity in the fall to join the force. Applications are accepted until May 31.
