MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sheriff’s Office and Decatur Police Department say one man faces charges after they found almost 2,600 grams of cocaine during an investigation.
The suspect was the only person in a vehicle stopped by authorities about 2 pm, Wednesday, on I-72 near mile marker 152.
A “free air sniff test” conducted by a K-9 officer led police to suspect drugs were being hidden somewhere in the car. After the search yielded a positive field-test for about 2,596 grams of cocaine, the man ran from authorities and led them on a foot chase through densely-wooded areas.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries sustained during the chase.
Authorities say the street value of the drugs confiscated is about $259,600. The man faces charges for manufacture/delivery of cocaine. His name has not yet been released.
