Interim chief gets permanent position

HOOPESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — After months of consideration, a new police chief has been named.

For many, it’s a familiar face. Sergeant Jim DeWitt has been the acting chief for months.

He took over for former chief Mark Drollinger, who died in July.

DeWitt says he’ll be looking back on his time under him for inspiration.

DeWitt has been with Hoopeston PD nearly 20-years. He also worked for the Rossville PD before that.
