QUINCY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reports last month’s norovirus outbreak at the Illinois Veterans’ Home is over. About 20 people experienced symptoms for a few days.
IDPH conducted an inspection and found no indication the outbreak was due to kitchen operations.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are approximately 19 – 21 million cases of norovirus each year nationally.
In 2017, there were approximately 215 separate norovirus outbreaks in Illinois; the majority occurring in long-term care or assisted living facilities.
Healthcare facilities are the most commonly reported settings for norovirus cases in the United States because of increased person-to-person contact.
Most people with norovirus get better within one to three days.
