URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Dozens chanted outside the Champaign County Courthouse to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deportation.
People at the rally say they’re fighting for families which are being torn apart because of a “cruel and inhumane policy.”
The father of two young children at the rally was recently arrested for a traffic violation. Shortly after authorities found out he was an illegal immigrant, ICE took him into custody.
He’ll be in court Thursday, but a family friend says his kids are heartbroken because they don’t know when, or if, they’ll see him again.
One person at the rally brought a poster which read “I support ICE.” She says the government is doing its job protecting legal citizens.
