CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Some may wonder how electronic monitoring bracelets work. So WCIA looked into how these devices actually monitor someone’s location.
This comes after two people wanted by Champaign County authorities were arrested. Police say Shamario Brown escaped his ankle bracelet. Eric Kirk was charged with escaping electronic monitoring.
If something goes wrong with a bracelet worn by someone through the department of corrections — they send out an arrest warrant. The Illnois Prisoner Review Board decides what the consequences are for the individuals. If something goes wrong with bracelets worn in Champaign County — County officials first make a call to the person and that could be followed up with a visit from an officer.The county jail can also be alerted if a monitor gets wet or if it gets caught on something.
