Historic weather prompts rare UI action

Local News

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS (WCIA) — The UI is canceling classes after historic extreme low temperatures and windchills are forecast. Classes after 6 pm, Tuesday, and all of Wednesday are canceled.

Officials looked at the National Weather forecast and determined it wasn’t practical to have kids walking to and from class.

The UI has only ever canceled a few times because of snow. This will be the first time it’s canceling for cold temperatures.

Even though classes are canceled, the univeristy is still open, but leaders ask all students stay inside.
