SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A flight nurse is returning home after helping transport hundreds from Hurricane Harvey.

St. John’s Hospital sent a team to help transport people who were in hospitals affected by the flooding to higher ground.

Now that the rescue mission is complete, one flight nurse says it was a humbling experience he’ll never forget.

Joe Rios says he rescued dozens of patients and is anticipating more calls for help with Hurricane Irma’s impact.
