CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — The local Habitat for Humanity is celebrating the milestone of building its 100th house.
The soon-to-be homeowner says she can’t wait until it’s finished. The new house is on West Hill Street, in Urbana.
Last week, the property was just a foundation, but Monday, a crew of volunteers accomplished a lot. The walls are up and a lot of progress is being made.
The future homeowner is a mother of five who says she’s excited and nervous to be a homeowner. She also says it’s exciting to soon live in the 100th home.
Habitat has been in the community for 25-years. This home is funded by a grant awarded through the Yahoo Employee Foundation. Volunteers from the company were on site working as well. The home should be done by summer.
This weekend also kicks off the 10th Annual National Women Build Week. Newly elected Urbana Mayor Diane Marlin will take part. Volunteers will build in two shifts Saturday. It will last through next weekend.
