CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Donations started pouring in early Tuesday morning and people gave all day. Even the smallest amount will go a long way to help Habitat for Humanity.
Whether it was a wave or through song, people were in the mood to give. The Day of Giving started in the early hours of the morning. In no time, buckets started filling up with cash for Habitat for Humanity.
“It’s not just about the houses. It’s about transforming people’s lives.”
From volunteers to future homeowners, everyone was showing support for the cause.
“Meeting the volunteers, meeting the people who are donating money and their time to help is probably the best part.”
“My kids having somewhere to call home and knowing Mom’s going to be there.”
People stopped by to give what they could. Those who volunteer their time say the money will go a long way.
“The kids get to meet the families that go in the house. What a great experience! You meet these families that are taking a major step forward.”
Habitat builds dozens of homes across Central Illinois each year. They’re not just houses; they become forever homes.
“I just want to give her a sense of community establishment, like giving back and helping others.”
“It’s special because I had a part in the whole process. Makes it special and I’m very blessed.”
