Groundbreaking signals official start of renovations

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — District leaders and others were on hand for the renovation groundbreaking at Central High School. It happened about 10 am, Monday, in the 600-block of West University Avenue.

The golden shovel dirt-turning is part of the $183.4 million referendum for Central’s expansion and renovations. It comes just days after Centennial’s groundbreaking.

Centennial High School is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021. Central High School is expected to be completed the following year.
