DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A federal government grant is covering 80% of the cost to renovate Rock Springs-Fairview paved bike trail.
The grant of $180,800 comes from the Recreational Trails Program. In Illinois, it’s administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The trail, built in 1996, serves thousands each year. 2.25 miles are within the Rock Springs Conservation Area and include three bridges spanning the Sangamon River and Stevens Creek.
Wooden sections of the bridges will be replaced while embankments and approaches will be reshaped.
