CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A nearly $50,000 grant will allow school districts to encourage students to walk or bike to school.
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced Champaign-Urbana Safe Routes to School Project (C-U SRTS Project), which is administered through the Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) will receive Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant funding.
The project will enable and encourage elementary and middle school students to walk and bike to school, even if they live far from school. Walking and biking to school can improve health and have environmental and transportation benefits for families.
C-U SRTS Project and Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit district have been awarded a $48,587.00 Safe Routes to School grant by IDOT.
