ILLINOIS (WCIA) — It’s a holiday weekend and, guess what? Gas prices are on the verge of hitting $3/gallon.
Average prices around the Champaign area are $2.93; a jump of more than 7-cents from last week.
Last year, prices were more than 70-cents cheaper; a lot easier on the wallet when heading somewhere fo the holiday.
It’s the highest price for gas going into Memorial Day since 2014. It could alter a lot of people’s plans this weekend.
Despite the high gas prices, more than 36 million people are expected to hit the road on this unofficial start to summer; a jump of 5% more than last year.
