Garden dedicated to missing Chinese scholar

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A judge is giving the lawyers for the man accused of kidnapping and killing a Chinese scholar more time. Brendt Christensen’s lawyers now have until December 3 to decide if they’ll use a mental health defense. His trial is still set for April.

The decision came just hours before U of I dedicated a memorial garden for Yingying Zhang near Goodwin and Clark in Urbana, the intersection where Zhang was last seen. The goal is to keep her memory alive with a garden modeled using Chinese landscaping techniques.
