Former Our Town opera house put to good use

Local News

PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A three story building was built downtown, in Our Town, in the late 1800’s. It’s still standing and there are big plans in the works for its future.

They are putting several apartment units on the second floor. The best part is, a lot of original architecture is being incorporated with the design.

These aren’t your typical apartments. They have everything from beautiful wood floors to a hand-crank elevator from the former Firestone store.

There’s also a wall filled with signatures from those who visited the opera house which used to be upstairs. The owner, Royce Baier, wanted to preserve the building’s history. The mayor says he’s happy to see it being put to good use.

Plans for the upstairs haven’t been decided just yet, but a few ideas have been discussed.
