DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A new food bank has opened. However, everything inside is for pets.
New Hope Animal Shelter is helping people take care of their pets. It opened for the first time Thursday. They have everything from beds to food.
Everything is about half off and the money that’s earned helps benefit the shelter. Organizers say they know that owning a pet comes at a cost. So they are hoping to help cut down some of that. “To be able to help the community too so people they don’t have to pay quite such a price for what they’re getting,” said Matthew Schmahl with the shelter. Jean Jaros of Decatur said she always puts her animals first and they need the help.
The food bank is in a building on North Water Street, near East Green. They are open every third Thursday of the month.
