NATIONAL (WCIA) — More people are heading to the emergency room or doctor’s offices because of the flu because this year’s strain is a challenge for a little of everyone.
Anyone 65 and older or children under the age of five years old are experiencing this strain of the flu the worse.
The strain, H2N3, is giving those people a hard time.
Experts say the vaccine this year is only about 35 percent effective based on that strain.
In better years, the vaccine is about 60 percent helpful.
Doctors say regardless of that number, people should still get the shot to help protect people who are most vulnerable to the flu.
Anyone in close contact with someone with the flu is advised to get treated to help prevent it as well. Antiviral drugs like Tamiflu can help with that.
If you have the flu, make sure to get some rest and plenty of fluids. If you’re starting to feel sick you’re advised to go to the doctor as soon as possible.
