NATIONAL (WCIA) — The Ranch Fire, in California, is now the largest wildfire in the state’s history and its smoke is crossing the country.

If you’ve been looking up at the sky the past few days, you may have noticed some haze. A UI professor says there is noticeable smoke in the atmosphere.

While we’re in a pocket right now because of the clouds, the smoke is expected to return in the next few days. It shouldn’t affect your health.

There’s also a Saharan dust layer coming into the atmosphere, right from the Sahara Desert. While it’s common in Florida, it’s generally not seen in Illinois. It should make sunsets redder, but should not affect health either
