Firefighter hurt responding to hog farm fire

EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Officials said one person was hurt responding to the Christensen Farms fire Tuesday night.

The Camargo firefighter was checked out by a physician after responding to the fire. He has since been cleared to return to duty.

Christensen Farms official Amber Portner said the pigs that survived were taken to an empty barn that a local farmer offered in the wake of the fire. Roughly 1,300 had been in the building, and veterinarian Laura Dalquist said most of them survived. She said they are testing the pigs to make sure they’re all healthy after being transferred off property and should receive the results by Friday.
