Fire department strained with non-emergency calls

Local News

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The fire chief says non-emergency calls have strained the department.

Our news partners at the Herald and Review report, the department is frequently called to help elderly people who’ve fallen or need other assistance.

The chief says many facilities are calling too often and taking advantage of the department.

He’s suggesting the city start charging commercial facilities for those calls.
