Fire department donates money to cancer research

SIDNEY, Ill. (WCIA) — T-shirts may not seem like much, but they made a big difference in one town.

The Sidney Fire Department presented a check to Carle for cancer research to find a cure. They raised $600 through a t-shirt drive. They say they see so many people battle the disease so they wanted to do their part.

Sidney Fire Lieutenant Grant Bennett says, “Every person, firefighter, non-firefighter, just anybody you’ve come in contact with has been affected by cancer one way or another, be it a co-worker, a family member, themselves. We run on people on a regular basis who are fighting cancer. It’s such a common thing now.”

They say they don’t have anymore t-shirts left, but plan on having another drive sometime next year.
