Facebook tips help identify bank robbery suspect

RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — After several tips police catch suspected bank robbery suspect.  

Police say Matthew Olivero entered Credit Union 1 at 200 E Champaign Avenue just after 10 a.m.

Witnesses say Olivero implied he had a weapon and demanded money. After receiving the money, he left from the east doors and walked southbound from the business.

The Rantoul Police Department placed images of the suspect on Facebook to identify him.

The METRO SWAT team executed a search warrant on Olivero’s home at approximately 4:30pm.

Olivero was taken into custody without incident.

Officers recovered $9100 of the $9200 dollars taken during the robbery from Olivero’s residence.

Olivero was later transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center on charges of Aggravated Robbery.
